This is a Banyan Tree, located in Hilo, on the east side of the Big Island.

Banyan trees have the curious nature of growning branches down into the ground where they reroot and become very much like trunks of their own.

Banyan trees can be found in a number of different places around Hawaii, including a more famous, and impressively huge tree, on the west coast of Maui.
